What We’d Like You to Know About Us
(and please, tell a Friend)
Greetings:
This is the home of one of the co-owners blog and I would like to take a moment to introduce our business to you! Blac Gurlz Ink is a NEW lesbian greeting card, calendar and print business and I am very excited to share information and updates about our products with you.
My name is Tonette Woodson and I am a Co-Owner.
Blac Gurlz Ink is the brain child of myself and my partner, Spring Opara, two American lesbians, of African descent who between the two of us could not find a greeting card, a print, a calendar, napkin, doily, bumper sticker…anything that represented us as lesbians!
We found that lesbians, in general, were not “realistically” being represented and that any representation of Black lesbians simply just did not exist. So, being the creative types we decided to develop their own line of quality, greeting cards, versus just complaining about it and waiting for someone to come out with a line.
The company’s name, Blac Gurlz Ink, was chosen because Spring and I are two, tattooed (inked), black lesbians and it was the most logical commonality we shared. We felt it was important to ensure that everyone knew who was behind the scenes of this endeavor — two lesbians, who have a vision of building community with other like-minded lesbians, for sure, and anyone else who has a positive, inclusive attitude.
We’ve been asked if we are going to feature other lesbians?
Why YES! In our Debut Series: Erotic Chocolate, we started with our images because we are dedicated to this endeavor, however, we have completed our second photo shoot – Graffiti Queers – in which lesbians of all shape, race and gender expressions modeled and the subsequent greeting cards are scheduled for release in time for San Francisco Pride 09 Celebration!
It is Blac Gurlz Ink’s intent to bring quality greeting cards to the lesbian consumer, specifically, but will produce items for the LGBT community in general, as well. Thus, brown, yellow, green, white, purple and blue lesbians will be used, however, there is a caveat to this…we need YOU to represent those groups and model for us!
The Blac Gurlz Ink motto is – we bring real lesbians to quality greeting cards!
Our products can be found on our website: www.blacgurlzink.com and at Laurel Book Store, 4100 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, California
AND remember,
We have a booth at SF Pride so stop by and say Hello!
We whole-heartedly believe that ALL women, regardless of race, shape, gender expression, size, age, etc., who carry a positive attitude are sexy and those are the women we seek to collaborate with on creative projects.
There will be “Calls for Submissions” and “Model Casting Calls” for future series that we will be creating. So Bookmark our website and join the Blac Gurlz Ink mailing list to keep abreast of upcoming events and sightings.
